View MoreOn Tuesday, June 25th, local contractors and businesses are invited to attend an informational meeting on the building program in Dorchester School District Two. This public meeting will be hosted by M.B. Kahn, CM at risk, and will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Summerville High School, 1101 Boone Hill Road, Summerville. This will be the first of three meetings that will be held to educate the community on subcontractor, vendor, and employment opportunities.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the building program approved by voters in November 2012 that will provide 4 new schools and additions and renovations to a number of other schools.
Representatives from M. B. Kahn and Robert Folkman, district capital improvement facilitator, and Belinda Cagle, district construction project manager, will be on hand to present an overview of the projects and timelines for the work. There will be an opportunity for questions.
The next two meetings will provide specific information and assistance, if needed, to enable interested businesses to participate in the bidding and procurement process. Notification of future meetings will be publicized well in advance.
Dorchester School District Two has named Dr. Tamara W. Diebold as the new principal of Eagle Nest Elementary School to replace Principal Karen Spillane who is taking a position as a district coordinator of Title 1. Dr. Diebold has been working in Dorchester School District Two since 1995 when she joined the teaching staff at Oakbrook Middle School as a 7th grade English Language Arts teacher. When Joseph R. Pye Elementary School was opened in 2011, Dr. Diebold was named Assistant Principal of the district’s newest elementary school.
Dr. Diebold brings to the position extensive experience and knowledge in curriculum and instructional practice. In addition, she has experienced the unique responsibilities associated with the opening of a new school.
Dr. Diebold completed her undergraduate degree at University of South Carolina and earned a Masters in Elementary Education from Charleston Southern University. She also received Gifted and Talented Endorsement from College of Charleston in 1999, Certification in Educational Administration from Charleston Southern University in 2005, and a Doctorate of Education from Walden University in 2011.
Eagle Nest Elementary School opened in 2007 and serves one of the fastest growing areas of the school district off of Dorchester Road. Dr. Diebold commented on her new role as principal, “I am excited to become a member of the Eagle Nest family and am looking forward to all we can accomplish together.”
STARTS (Students Turning to the Arts) is an eight-day (half-day) summer arts program for current 1st & 2nd grade students who live in the Dorchester District Two attendance area. The students will explore four areas of art: music, drama, dance and visual arts. Certified teachers and/or local artists will teach the classes. This year’s program them will be “Everything Happened in the 19th Century.”
The camp will be held at Summerville Elementary School/Rollings Middle School of the Arts June 17th – June 27th. The program hours are 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday. The cost per child is $95.00, which includes a specially designed program t-shirt. Spaces are still available, but enrollment is limited to 80 applicants.
