Board Approves 2014-2015 School Year Calendar
The Dorchester School District Two Board of Trustees approved the calendar for the 2014-2015 school year at the board meeting on Monday night. The following are several points of consideration in development of the calendar.

  • The school year must have 180 instructional days for students
  • The first day for students must be no earlier than the 3rd Monday in August—this year that date would be August 18th
  • The calendar should include 10 teacher workdays/staff development days
  • State law requires that all schools be closed for general elections on the first Tuesday in November which will be November 4th
  • Spring break is scheduled on the week before Easter (March 30, 31st; April 1st-3rd). Due to the State Department of Education’s schedule for HSAP tests for high school students on April 14, 15, 16, it was determined to in the best interest of students to have them return to school a week before the administration of this high stakes test.
  • The last day for students will be on May 29th
  • The three inclement weather make-up days are included during the year on teacher workdays/staff development days rather than at the end of the year
